We embark upon this life
Go through the stress and strife;
We fall in queue for our brief time here
For no matter how long we last,
It won’t be as long as our past
And it’s all but a token homage my dear
For this gem of a love
Above all others love
Yet we know nothing’s perfect and only God is truly divine
Some say love is just a sell
That heaven is as well
But I know both are real when your hand is holding mine
For you know, I give all of my love to you
From now until our time on earth is through
Because I know you give all of your love to me
And that’s all there ever needs to be
That’s all there ever needs to be
Some days are just hell for us,
Some days all we do is fuss
Some days we cook, other days we freeze
Some days we can’t do without
Some days all we do is pout
Some days we’re brought right down to our knees
Some in big mansions live,
Some inside hovels give
Their all in all to get through the day
Some love’s an orchard to share
Some love’s a cupboard bare
But our love’s beyond what mere words can say
For you know, I give all of my love to you
From now until our time on earth is through
And I know you give all of your love to me
And that’s all there ever needs to be
That’s all there ever needs to be
What I believe is this
We’re touched with heaven’s bliss
Living day by day in this Fool’s Paradise
This love’s where we live and die
This love between you I
At the end of day that’s enough to suffice
Sometimes it’s a slippery slope
Sometimes we can barely cope
But to know these joys we’ll risk pain’s chance
Day by day we grow old,
Others rust, we stay gold
Two left footed steppers in an intricate dance
For you know, I give all of my love to you
From now until our time on earth is through
For I know you give all of your love to me
And that’s all there ever needs to be
That’s all there ever needs to be

dVerse ~ Poets Pub | Meeting The Bar : Songwriting and its Relationship to Poetry
Day by day we grow old,
Others rust, we stay gold…..nice… and you know…i could literally hear this…and see…. in a bar..muted light… late already…few people on the chair and a guitar, piano, drum, you on the mic in an evening dress and he sits on one of the tables, glass of wine in front of him… looks..listens..and just smiles
Get out of my head Claudia. That’s *exactly* how I envisioned this, thanks.
I really love to thing that love will carry us through,,, the repetiation of some days is a really nice contrast in the rest of the lyrics… really.
Thank you Björn. Sometimes it is the only thing that gets us through.
I really enjoyed this – the repetition of some key words and phrases makes it very memorable too!
Thank you freya, I enjoy repetition and alliteration for that reason. I think the sound play helps it to stick to the psyche.
Love the title of this piece and could feel the confidence in each other…just knowing it’s for the long term no matter what. I thought of Etta James singing.
Hmm, hadn’t thought of Etta. That would be a nice round voice and her diction would be spot on. Sometimes you do just “know”. Thanks Katy.
smiles…loves journey is not an easy one…it is full of times we struggle through, the secret is in staying together through those so that love can deepen and endure….
Thanks Brian. You’re right, love is not an easy journey, but it is one hell of a trip.
This is a realistic poem of love, one that doesn’t glorify it or downplay it….but says it just as it is! Nice.
Just keeping it simply and true. Thank you Mary.
I like how you describe the challenges people in love have to face from time to time. It is nice when “This love between you I / At the end of day that’s enough to suffice”
Thanks Gabriella, like I said to Björn, sometimes it is the only thing that gets us through.
Maintaining Love is our most important duty, our job-apex, for it does need maintenance & nurturing & reinforcement & reciprocity & romance; & you seem to be just the gal poet to get ‘er done; nice job (& like me, you tend to be long-winded never short of breath or words, right?)
Thanks for the first part and *ouch* for the second Glenn. I guess I’ll shut up now.
I was singing along with you ~ I specially like these lines:
Day by day we grow old,
Others rust, we stay gold
Two left footed steppers in an intricate dance
Enjoyed this love song ~
Thanks, Grace. Those are a couple of my favorite lines in this and the “Some days….” sequence as well.
I picked out the same lines as Grace. They’d go great on a Valentine’s card.
I suspect that will the catch phrase of this as others have quoted it also. Thanks J.Lynn.
amazing, I sang along………..
Thanks Vandana.
I liked those same lines as the others…day by day we grow old, others rust, we stay gold, two left footed steppers in an intricate dance. And agree with Mary…no romanticizing the partnership…sometimes it can be downright gritty!
“…sometimes it can be downright gritty!” So, so true. Thanks.
a wonderful reflect of life… so much thought put into your words
Thank you Wolfsrosebud.
I would read this during a wedding ceremony
Beautiful. Could have been spoken by my wife’s aunt and uncle at their wedding. They’ve been together 67 years!
