This lady takes the early train
Wiping sleep from my eyes
To come back home again
Wash, rinse and reprise
Decades now spent
Chasing the enterprise
Of the adage
Early to bed, early rise
Not mentally healthy
Certainly not wealthy
And questioning the wise

Tonight at dVerse Poets Pub Kim asks us to write a Quadrille (a 44 word poem, not including the title), using the word “Early.”
Oh yes, i so agree, but I couldn’t have spoken it so eloquently. Very smooth voice and delivery. Believable like this came straight from you and not some contrived verbiage . Very nice.
Thank you.
This made me smile. I often wondered how wise I was until I retired! I liked this a lot.
I like your wry take on this – and a splash of Sheena Easton thrown in to kick things off! Perfect.
I knew people would get the Easton reference. Thanks.
Ah, Sheena Easton – I remember her. I also remember the tiring routine of ‘Wash, rinse and reprise’. Like Toni, I’m retired and wiser for it! I enjoyed this very much.
I’ve a few more years before I retire. Looking forward to only waking early if I want to. Thanks.
i recall the lines of this song, she was a favourite of mine – love the twist to an old saying at the end.
Thank you.
I like how the last two lines paired “wealthy” and “wise”.
Thanks.
It’s always a good sign when someone questions the wise.
That is true. Thanks Jane.
🙂
Oh how wise can it be? I think it’s only the young that are burning their midnight oil… when they age it’s just warmth in the ember.
“Just warmth in the ember” I like that. Thanks.
Yes! Call Franklin into question! I feel your “Groundhog Day” struggle, for it is mine, too! 🙂
HAH! “Groundhog Day” struggles indeed. Thanks Frank.
It’s always good to question 🙂 shows how much one wishes to learn, to understand things and evolve ❤️
Quite brilliant, if not wise.
Thank you.
I know that repetition, sighs. Always good to question and ponder. Hope it all works out in the end.
quite poetic.
