I hope someday I get to remember
– Madame President and her First Lady
I hope someday I get to forget
– That a cross burning in America happened in this decade
I would like to remember
– All the Spanish I learned in high school
I would like to forget
– The taste of my own toes on too many occasions
Sometimes I forget
– just how old I am
But my two over 30-year-old sons help me remember
– just how young I’m not
I forgot…
– How to tie a real bow tie
I remember…
– Your knowing smile when I tugged it loose in one smooth motion
If only I could remember
– The exact day, hour, minute I became your woman
If only I could forget
– The exact day, hour, minute I became your widow

At dVerse we’re asked “How we forget” as inspired by the poem of the same name by Loyce Gayo. I went off track and chose a more personal route to remember as well as forget.
I LOVE this poem! Love the opening (me, too!), and was struck by the remembering when you became his widow. So sorry. Such a strong closing,. A wonderful response to the prompt.
Thank you Sherry!
Perhaps we can talk Hillary into making THAT
first one a reality sooner than we might
think.. now wouldn’t that be
beautiful if not only
she wins
but freely
comes out
of a closet
of bisexuality
as well.. after all
the Kinsey study suggests
that it is not that uncommon at
all behind closed doors at least..
and i promise you it is no longer
NOT uncommon among females
in the modern dance hall scene..
smiles.. but anyway no chance
of her and Bill getting
divorced and her
getting married
to another
woman..
sometimes
power speaks
volumes over
orientations
of difference
not spoken
clearly
enough..
honesty is the best
policy for human freedoms
and what a hero she can be
if she does speak more honestly
about this.. it’s just like Bill’s
putting it in his mouth
and never
really
inhaling
it.. i guess..
or the definition
of sex that has
grown into
hooking up now..
as folks have gotten
used to sex enough where
the fertility rates are finally
dropping as ‘IT’ just ain’t THAT
big of a deal
anymore..
humans
love taboo
more than
the real
dam
thing
apparently..
smiles..
there are enough
people anyway..
truly it should be
promoted as a healthy
lifestyle for the earth to frigging survive..
or just be like me and my wife
and don’t have children..
who survive at least..
if THAT is what floats
one’s
boat..
smiles
again..
The world will definitely
survive if the leaders
just let the commoners
float their boats FREE
AS GOD OF NATURE
TRULY EVOLVES US
TO
BE
OR
NOT
TO BE..:)

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Katiemiafrederick. 🙂
I adore the first line.. imagine that would happen.. and those last two lines, such a strong pairing. Yes this was a great prompt.. it has brought out some of the best poetry I have read in a long time.. really.
Thank you, Björn. And I agree this prompt has brought out some quality writing this week.
Such a poignant closing… feel deeply sorry for your loss.. wishing you peace..
Lots of love,
Sanaa
Gratefully, I was granted that peace a few years back. Thank you for the well wishes Sanaa.
OH. This just punched me in the gut. I was already so in love with those bow tie lines. So well done.
I really need to re-learn how to do bow ties, and regular ties for that matter, again. Thanks Whimsy.
I like the contrasting verses of what you are remembering and forgetting ~ I deliberately forget my age, smiles ~
The ending lines tugged my heart as this is your personal share ~ Some memories will always stay with us ~
Thanks for linking up and being inspired by the prompt ~ Have a good week ~
It was an excellent prompt to be inspired by. Thank you, Grace.

Hugs right back at you Hobbit <3, thanks Q.
A terrific idea to pair forgetting & remembering, doubling the scope of the prompt. I reads quickly, cleanly twice over–riveting concepts & imagery.
Thank you Glenn!
I love this. Brilliantly executed.
Thank you Mama Zen!
This is was such an enjoyable read and a refreshing take on the prompt. Loved it.
Thanks Mishunderstood.
the banter and then the spin – a satisfying read, and I admire your take on the prompt ~
Thank you M.
