I enjoy a wild wit, words well at play
Second guessing what a person did say
A well-placed pun lifts the heaviest day
Double entendres while away the day
Innuendos of course come out to play
Expressions telling more than what they say
“I never know what you’re going to say!”
Will bring forth a smile to me any day
My mind’s a thesaurus at constant play
Witty words at play, I say, make my day

Indeed, I’ve always loved watching someone groan when a good pun is dropped on them. Too bad you weren’t around for the Algonquin Round Table.
Oh, I’ve long held Dorothy Parker as my witticism idol. Twixt the servings of bonbons and bon mots, I truly would have been at home at the Round Table.
nice…love me some clever word play and oh the playfulness of words generally…i’m always amazed at what can be done with words..it’s fascinating, surprising, exciting….cool take on the form..
ha i def am a fan of word play and innuendo, allusions how ever you want to play it…its like a dance and a riddle rolled into one….and often makes me smile….
Cute… I especially like the last two lines.
Thanks Claudia, Brian and Laurie. Do we really have a choice? It’s pretty much a given in our nature as wordsmiths to enjoy word play.
I’ve managed many good ones, been the “straight man” for many others. And yet sometimes the simplest ones go right by me. Last night I ate at a place called Nacho Mama’s. And until Ray laughed, it didn’t even occur to me that it was anything other than… like, Tamale Brothers. And I’ve hear the nacho cheese joke! *sigh*
Ah Q, you know my penchant for bad puns. The more facepalm worthy the better. I would have gotten “the joke” immediately and cringed while giggling.
Haha, I know, I felt like such a dope. And I meant *heard* above, not *hear.*
Such a fun take on the form! Is there anything more delightful than word play?
“Is there anything more delightful than word play?”
Not really! Thanks Emily!
Very creative and lots of form – you used the form well and explored your resources as well as your humor. Loved it!
Thanks Gay!
It would have been much too easy for me to be serious with the form. The challenge was making it fun while staying true to form.
This is just awesome. Brillant! The best I’ve read today.
Aww shucks now.
Thank you Jessica!
I’m a word addict, too. Especially love the word play you mention. This is, as Gay points out, a skilled use of the form.
What fun! Words are definitely to play with, I think. No greater joy than turning words in a playful way.
I haven’t met a bad pun, double entendre or innuendo I didn’t like!
Thanks Victoria and Mary.
Interesting! Not only did you attempt a tritina, but you challenged yourself further by making all the end-words rhyme as well – so this composition takes high marks for ambition, as well as execution. Great work!
Why thank you, Samuel!!
* curtsies *
Clever and upbeat, love it!
Thanks Sharonlee.
So accomplished, what I found difficult. Impressive!
Some forms come easy for us, others take work. I’m glad you liked my take on it. Thanks David!
Great job with the form, and entertaining too!
I have my moments. Thanks Charles.
I’m with you on playing with words – it’s the tagline on my blog. This is simply delightful – so clever too.
Hahahaha! Of course you know I have to look at your tagline now right?
Thank you Tony.
This was a fun read. Love the use of rhyme embedded within the tritina. Whether witty or not, you have a knack with words.
Why thank you, RMP.

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks.
