The street is deserted, no one’s around
An occasional car, but no other sound
All you see are the shadows of the night
Broken only by the eerie glow of street light
If you’re still long enough, you can hear a mouse
Bold enough to scurry through the house
And then a glow arrives reaching over it all
Watching it slowly chase the shadows on the walls
Taking away the chill of the dark night
Filling my world with its warm light
Neighborhood junkies going for a fix
Winos, bag ladies, a crazy mix
Parked cars leave from their spaces
People start to pass, I know some of the faces
Each morning I watch this changing show
Until its time for me to go

very cool…i missed this when i was in NYC..never was up so early…next time i will…a city is so different at different times of the day..
So true, Claudia. The dawn itself is different at different times of the year. What’s seen during a 5am summer dawn is very different than the 7am winter dawn. Thanks.
pretty cool to see the city come alive and watch the world come alive around us….i watch it often from my place….i have seen it in the big city though…i am an early riser….
Thanks Brian. I am an early riser by force of habit for work. Regardless of when I wake and function, I personally do not come alive until about 3 in the afternoon.
WOnderfully descriptive and vivid! Very nicely done!
Thanks Charles.
Hmm, interesting — do you find solitude there?
Believe it or not, even within a teeming metropolis, moments of solitude can be found.
